About the author

Alison B. Evert, MS, RDN, CDE, is a diabetes nutrition educator and the coordinator of diabetes education programs at the University of Washington Medical Center, Diabetes Care Center. She enjoys translating the science of nutrition into healthful eating plans for people with diabetes. Alison's experience in diabetes education has spanned over 30 years in a variety of practice settings from pediatrics to primary care. She writes and presents frequently about the role of nutrition therapy in the management of diabetes.

Marion J. Franz, MS, RDN, CDE, is a nutrition/health consultant with Nutrition Concepts by Franz, Inc. She is the lead author on the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Evidence-Based Nutrition Practice Guidelines for Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes and has authored American Diabetes Association nutrition position statements and technical reviews. She is a frequent contributor to journals and textbooks and lectures frequently in the U.S. and abroad. She co-edited the 2012 edition of this book.
