Let's get it straight, Squirrel Girl isn't a traditional super hero protagonist, and the stories aren't particularly deep and complex, or dark in any way, but they're not meant to be. Think of it as super hero meets slice of life humor. If you're looking for gritty or piercing you're in the wrong place: this is just good fun, with a lovable lead who navigates college life and fights evil with a mix of diplomacy and ridiculous squirrel-themed powers. Ryan's distinctive wit is well-matched to this character. The art took a little getting used to for me; I tend to prefer finer lines, more detail, and subtler coloring than Erica uses, but her high-contrast, blunt style serves the tone of the writing well.

This would probably be great for getting a sarcastic "hipper-than-thou" teen or 20something into comics. It wasn't really for me. It felt like the book was trying too hard to be "hip and with it". The art is great though.

Doreen is so cool.how does she go to school if she is half squirrel half girl. I love squirrel girl. She should have a boyfriend and a job. I love this book. But I hate the story at the end of the real book. But I love the little pictures at the end of the frist ever book where she meets Ironman.
