There's one thing I'm always sure of when I read a B. A. Paris novel - I'm going to be kept right on the edge of my seat! Alice and Leo are finally moving in together; not just in any old house, but a gated community of exclusive homes in London. It's everything they could want but as Alice gets to know her new neighbours she discovers that a grisly crime took place there, and she can't leave it alone. She needs to know more and begins to feel a connection to Nina, the murdered woman who lived in her home before her. But no-one will tell her what she wants to know and she's quite sure that they know more than they're letting on. This one kept me reading not only into the night, but well into the early hours of the morning - I just couldn't put it down. I HAD to know what was going on and it was like reading a riddle; each time I thought I had worked out who was guilty I was proved wrong but NEVER did I suspect the actual culprit! I felt as if I had gone through the wars with this one and was quite worn out by the final page - mind you, it was almost 3 a.m. A thoroughly satisfying read and one which, I suspect, will cement this author's place at the top of the tree. A heart-pounding novel which had me quite scared at time and made me very glad to have my sleeping husband withing touching distance. Definitely worth all five sparkling stars and the very highest recommendation.

I did enjoy this book and read it quickly. But, I think there was a focus on too many characters and it at times became confusing to distinguish who was married to who. The choices the main protagonist made were sometimes a little far fetched and didn't quite ring true. While the twist was clever, the explanation behind it wasn't strong enough to truly blow my mind and feel satisfied with the conclusion.

just difficult to read. the main character spends chapters and chapters whining on about the same trivial issue.
