La prima parte del libro, "L'ebraismo e le culture del Mediterraneo", approfondisce i rapporti tra le comunità ebraiche della Turchia dopo la prima guerra mondiale, delle colonie italiane nel Mediterraneo, Libia e Rodi, e le altre culture con le quali ebbero contatti. La seconda parte, "L 'ebraismo e la Sardegna", getta luce sulle presenze ebraiche nell'isola a partire dal XVIII secolo, attraverso l'ausilio di documenti in gran parte inediti. Vengono infine messi in luce gli effetti delle leggi razziali del fascismo sulla piccola comunità ebraica sarda e, in particolare, su alcuni docenti delle università di Cagliari e Sassari che furono costretti a lasciare le loro cattedra.
