About this ebook

In this book, we will explain how to convert a PDF file to a fixed layout ePub version 3 file. This is possible since the version 3 of the ePub format which includes now the fixed layout mode in addition to the traditional flowing text mode. We will use free open source tools, mainly pdf2htmlEX, with an example under Linux.

The author does explain one method of converting PDFs to ePub, and the method does work well, but it is definitely not "practical" for a PDF containing many pages. One step requires the manual editing of the temporary file for each page of the PDF, while another step requires the creation of a manifest containing the filenames of each temporary page file, along with image files and font files. If the author had supplied scripts to automate these processes, I would give this ebook 5 stars. However, due to the manual processing required for anything but the smallest PDF documents or books, I'm forced to give this ebook 2 stars. This method is "effective", but "Practical" it is not.
