Valri Western
Let me just say that I really didn't want to read this book because that meant that the Butterfly Harbor series would be over, and I'd be left without the anticipation of another book coming out soon! I have loved this series from the very first book and have literally wanted to move to this town! All the residents care about each other and take care of each other. It's not a perfect town and there have been issues but, in the end, the sense of community has carried them through a lot of tough times. One constant has been that no one really liked Gil Hamilton, who is the mayor. He's been a secondary character in all the books, and he really hasn't been very nice. Each book, however, he seems to be a little less hard to deal with! This final book was Gil's book, and the author did an excellent job of redeeming him. When you find out his backstory and how he got to where he was, you were totally sympathetic! Enter Leah who is running against him for mayor. We met her in the previous book. She is a lawyer and is a great character. When Gil has a 6-month-old baby left on his doorstep, he turns to Leah for help! This changes both of them! The town can't figure out why Leah is helping Gil of all people! The process they both go through ends up changing the town and yes, I cried! The whole book was a perfect ending of this series! I was a mess by the end of the book! I loved all the characters and will think of them often!
