As a Puerto Rican, I felt the need to read this book. I already knew most of the history, but I wanted more detail. I got the detail I wanted, but the book did seem to jump around quite a bit from one topic to another. I also needed to keep in mind the time that this book was written in, because there seemed to be a bit of what we would call "racism" or "race generalizations". I'm still on the lookout for more historical information with less conjecture (and perhaps more updated). All in all, however, it was quite educational and I recommend it to, not just Puerto Ricans, but all Americans.
