Scientific research is the search for truth and this is a noble pursuit. Yet the scientists who power this endeavor are all-too human; they are driven by desire for fame, for power, for money and, in many cases, they will not be denied. For a few, the path leads to uncollegiality, deceit and even crime. Results may be manipulated, competitors may be obstructed - even destroyed.
You will meet some of these villains in this group of short stories, which are based upon real-life occurrences which came to the ears of the author during his many years in the trenches of Science and through his work as an ombudsman. Read with care! Not all of the people whom you will meet will be White Knights!
Professor Hansford is well-placed to write these stories. He has been a long-serving faculty member of the National Institutes of Health and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, as well as other universities, and is extensively published in the field of biochemistry. He has served as ombudsman for a major research institution and has taught many students at an offshore medical school located in the Caribbean. His island experiences provided some of the inspiration for a fictional professor's memoir entitled The Doctor Factory, which has been well received.
