Firefighter Grady Donovan spots Chelsey Daniels ice skating and it’s love at first sight. Chelsey thinks he’s hot, she’s a little more cautious. She was married to a man who was an alcoholic and who died during a mine collapse where he worked. She’s sworn that she would never be involved with anyone in a dangerous line of work. She was not about to lose another man that she loves. Much to her disbelief, Grady tells her that he’s an alcoholic but he’s been sober for 8 years. After hearing her story about her husband, Grady is worried that Chelsey won’t be able to get beyond that. She’s still coming to terms with that when Grady is nearly killed as rescues his own dog, Spot, as well as other victims from an apartment fire. Will she be able to overcome her fears to make a life with Grady? Cheyenne McCray always writes romance stories that come from the heart. There’s just enough spice in intimate moments that make the story what it is without detracting from the story. Grady is such a great guy. He wants someone real, who is as beautiful inside as she is outside. Chelsey has had a fairly harsh life. She battles so hard to not lose her heart to Grady. There are secondary characters that played a small part in learning who Grady and Chelsey are. Chelsey raised 2 younger sisters and 2 younger brothers starting at age 19 when her parents were killed in an auto accident. She put her dreams of the Olympics on the back burner so that her siblings would not go into foster care. There’s just nothing about this one that I didn’t like. It’s a quick, easy read.
