The Fat Poets' Society began at a writing workshop at the 2006 convention of the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance (NAAFA). The first volume in the series, Fat Poets Speak: Voices of the Fat Poets' Society, was published by Pearlsong Press in May 2009 and praised as groundbreaking.
Frannie Zellman received her MA in creative writing from Boston University in 1980 and blames none of her professors for what she has done or written since.
She is a member of the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance (NAAFA) and has taught writing workshops for people of size. She is the editor of Fat Poets Speak: Voices of the Fat Poets' Society, Fat Poets Speak 2: Living and Loving Fatly, and Fat Poets Speak 3: FatDance Flying. She is the author of the novels FatLand and FatLand: The Early Days.
