Ratings and reviews

The only thing that disappointed me about this book (as a sequel to John Dies at the End) is it took itself way too seriously. The first book made your jaw drop by throwing zany sci-fi science and mind-bending supernatural horror right into your face, and while this book was much easier to read in terms of plot, it just didn't catch me off guard like the first one. BUT don't get me wrong. This is still one of my favourites, and I highly recommend this AFTER John Dies Etc. You just won't get it otherwise.

A wonderful sequel to one of my all-time favorite books. While it may not be quite as crazy as John Dies at the End, it's still full of the same glorious David Wong humor.

I've read some people saying that this book is not on par with the original. Bullshit. The characters are consistent, the story is well paced, and it is just as over-the-top as it needs to be to still be a story about David and John. Even the new characters that were added for for the story were interesting, which I always find is the hardest part of a sequel (making me care about new people versus old ones). All in all, this was a very enjoyable read, and I hope that there is a third in the near future.
