Shadow Wolf
By Kathryn Lasky
When I first picked up Wolves of the Beyond Shadow Wolf, I expected a little more mystery, so if you read the back of the title you won’t get mystery until the last five chapters. I was fine with that because there was so much excitement. The author really got me engrossed in the book because of the suspense. I just couldn’t set it down! I read this book in two days even though it was 260 pages long all of the excitement made it easy to read. There were a few chapters that were mostly dialogue and hard to understand. Towards the end chapter I couldn’t tell who was talking. I think that the main character, Foalan, was too attached to his second mother a grizzly who died in the last book. He was stranded in the first book and the mother grizzly took him in. After the mother grizzly dies, he returns to the pack as a gnaw wolf which is the lowest position possible. It was interesting because he breaks all the laws of the hunting formation but still earns friends, and he doesn’t know a thing about wolf customs, so he gets bullied and lonely. In the end, he gains a higher position and the wolves don’t bully him. If you are looking for mystery I wouldn’t suggest this book. The story was mostly action and some dialogue. This is a good book for action or excitement. This book is for readers that like stories about animals that communicate with each other. The dialogue is through the wolves and the owls. The animals are the main characters. This is a pleasure reading book good for car trips, plane trips or even when you’re bored.
