Peter Steiner
This is a good book, well worth the money. It's captivating - and unlike so much fantasy on the market today, has a protwgonist you'll actually like. A character surrounded by interesting, well-realized friends and family. A character who is, refreshingly, heroic - and not a sheltered writer's idea of "darkly cynical." In short, this is a straightforward adventure - a romp, almost an opera. Impossible to put down. The protagonist even bothers to question his own ideas, and those of people around him - and change his mind. Despite that, it's pretty simplistic: for fun, count the number of times our hero passes out from his injuries and wakes up naked in a random bed. This is a great beach read. You won't regret it.
