About this ebook

A dark and tender post-apocalyptic love story set in the aftermath of a bloody war

In a city where humans and Darklings are now separated by a high wall and tensions between the two races still simmer after a terrible war, sixteen-year-olds Ash Fisher, a half-blood Darkling, and Natalie Buchanan, a human and the daughter of the Emissary, meet and do the unthinkable--they fall in love. Bonded by a mysterious connection that causes Ash's long-dormant heart to beat, Ash and Natalie first deny and then struggle to fight their forbidden feelings for each other, knowing if they're caught, they'll be executed--but their feelings are too strong.

When Ash and Natalie then find themselves at the center of a deadly conspiracy that threatens to pull the humans and Darklings back into war, they must make hard choices that could result in both their deaths.

God, this book changed my life when I first read it and all its series. After reading this, I was-- and still am-- forever devoted to books. But Black City and Ash, Natalie, Beetle, and Sun (I forget her name, its been a year), will always be my number one. With everyone going through a difficulty of the screwed government and its mysteries and the romance are all amazing and intoxicating to the touch. Its all beautiful. I LOVE IT!!!!

Okay so I read this book in highschool, it was the only one available. Pheonix hadn't been written yet. When I tell you that this book is pure gold, I mean it. There's forbidden love, a serious line between species that honestly reminds me of Nazis (I know, thats dark but you need to read this Trilogy to understand it), oppression, Rebellion, Lies, D R A M A, Effects of Bad Drug Use, and my goodness...so much. I fell in love with the book, it takes ALOT for me to fall in love with books. I've been out of highschool for almost 7 years now and I STILL COME BACK for it. These books speak out on serious matters and to be honest, they changed the way I see people. Ash and Natalie have a very interesting story. The twist to the Vampire logic *kisses hand like a chief*. I really REALLY recommend these books. Even though its fiction, it changed me. Im horrible at book reviews but please give these a chance. -Rae
