Scotland to Ireland with the army and from there to all parts of the world and over the centuries lost knowledge of their original roots. In my case, as an Armstrong, we were told that our ancestors came from the Esk Valley, Scotland but there was nothing recorded in that area. Thanks to Burkes Genealogy I have now discovered that they were Gallen people who went to Ireland, to the continent and on to the West Indies where records were burnt in a fire in Georgetown, Guiana. Our Armstrong line is scattered. Some live in New Zealand, Australia, America and Canada.
