Henri Roehrich (1837-1913) fut pasteur à Stockholm, à Hambourg et à Strasbourg, avant de revenir exercer son ministère à Genève, où il était né. Il reste connu en Suisse, pour avoir versifié l'ancien hymne national « Ô Monts indépendants ». Son don de poésie s'est encore exercé à l'occasion de sa monographie sur le prophète Habbakuk, qui contient une traduction en prose, puis en vers, du texte hébraïque. Dans la partie critique, assez fouillée, l'auteur s'intéresse notamment à la date de composition de ce livre biblique, qu'il situe vers 605 avant J.-C., sous le règne de Jojakim. La rareté des études consacrées au petit prophète Habakuk, nous fait d'autant plus apprécier la qualité et la beauté de la sienne.
