About this ebook

She thought her life was over. He gave her a reason to breathe—beneath the sea.

After the devastating loss of her child, Brianna walks off a pier with no intention of coming back. But fate has other plans. She’s rescued by a silver-eyed merman whose kiss lets her breathe underwater—and whose touch ignites a passion deeper than the ocean.

Zantu has spent decades dodging the mate-bond that dooms his kind to heartbreak. Mermen love for life. And when their mates stray, they die. But when he pulls a drowning woman from the depths, everything changes. One kiss binds them. Now, he must protect his human mate from seductive mermaids, dangerous magic, and the pull of a world she may never want to leave.

This standalone magical fantasy romance has emotional depth, scorching fated mate passion, trauma healing, and a guaranteed HEA. Perfect for readers who devour books by Tiffany Roberts, Ruby Dixon, Evangeline Anderson, and Amanda Milo.

This gets 4 stars, overall I really find the author did a great job with the plot and world building. There was a lot packed into this book despite its page count, it entertained me and it put this author in my will-give-any-story-she-writes-a-chance-even-if-the-dude-is-a-horse (or fish) list. And! The mermaids were colour coordinated😂 This story entertained me, as well as the friends of mine who benefited from my play by play. I read it because it was free, it's not something I'm likely to have picked up otherwise. One you get past the part where he's a fish, the story isn't bad. It has a plot. It has details about the world under the sea and how life works there. The story was a little rushed, yet it was still a good complete story. My absolute favorite line from this book is: (stop reading here if you don't want to know 😉) "His cock had erupted from its sheath like a narwhal's horn through the ice" The book is absolutely worth reading for that line alone.

First of all, it should be stated that this is definitely an erotic romance. There is sex, and there is romance. Best of both worlds if you ask me. If you're looking to indulge in a little underwater merfolk lore, this is a great book (and series) as it paints a very different light on these mythological creatures we all know so well and yet so poorly at the same time. Mrs. Ley's depiction of the species is unique and simultaneously heart wrenching. You have been warned. There are feels. LOTS of feels in this book. But fear not; there is a happy ending on the horizon! Zantu (our merman hero) and Briana (our very human heroine) are both somewhat tortured characters who are amazingly tenderhearted despite it all. Zantu's relationship with his brother and his brother's child is particularly touching. No spoilers here, just expect lots of interesting new merfolk lore, lots of steamy sex, some very sweet romance, some emotional healing, and an adorable baby mer. And don't worry when you get to the end and want more! Rubac and Ebby both have their own books and you will see more of Zantu and Briana. Enjoy!
