'Hamish' is the first book in Kathi S. Barton's new series "Perry's Nest". It's been a hot minute since I've read one of Ms. Barton's vampire series so this was an unexpected pleasure. Perry is what is considered an ancient, at least 500 years old, who has discovered the scent of his mate and followed It all morning until he found her at the courthouse. Come to find out, Aulander, aka Lander, is a very famous retriever diver and an expert in her field. That's what she was doing at the courthouse. She had been summoned to testify at a trial and winds up being seriously hurt while leaving which put her in the hospital and coming face to face with Perry. There is a great cast of characters introduced within this first book and each of them has their little quirks and idiosyncrasies which gives this storyline so much personality. Although the chemistry is initially muted it does come out in a big way once Lander decides she's on board with the idea. Now it's just a matter of following the characters and their individual stories while we see Perry's Nest continue to grow. I look forward to when 'Warren' releases next.
