4.5 stars--MY CRUEL SALVATION is the third instalment in J. Kenner’s contemporary, adult FALLEN SAINT erotic, romantic suspense series focusing on former police officer turned investigative journalist Ellie Holmes, and billionaire investor Devlin Saint. MY CRUEL SALVATION should not be read as a stand alone as if picks up after the events of book two MY BEAUTIFUL SIN. SOME BACKGROUND: Ten years after the death of her uncle Peter, former police officer turned investigative journalist Ellie Holmes returns to her home town of Laguna Cortez when the police reopen the investigation into her uncle’s murder, a return that brings Ellie face to face with her past, Alex Leto, now known as billionaire philanthropist/ investor Devlin Saint, the man who broke our heroine’s heart. Told from first person perspective (Ellie Holmes), and third person (Devlin Saint) using present day and memories from the past, MY CRUEL SALVATION picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of MY BEAUTIFUL SIN wherein Devlin Saint is preparing to accept a humanitarian award but everything begins to spiral out of control when the demons from his past are revealed for the world to see. As Devlin and his right-hand man Ronan begin an investigation into the who, how and why, secrets reveal another betrayal, and the team at Saint’s Angels exact revenge for sins of the past, revenge that will place our couple in the direct line of fire. MY CRUEL SALVATION is a continuing story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, secrets, lies, romance and love. A tale of twisted and haunting deception blended into a love story of second chances. The character driven premise is intricate, tragic and real; the romance is seductive and edgy-the sexual chemistry is fiery hot; the characters are energetic, clever and dramatic. The Fallen Saint series continues with Ronan and Brandy’s story in Sinner’s Game.

This is the final book of Fallen Saint Series. Do you love drama, romance, suspense, mystery well this book has all that waiting for you. Devlin and Ellie have gone through everything you could possibly think of, and then some. And there love is even stronger then ever now. Both of them has loss so much and it's hard to believe there still alive. From house fire, cars chases, kiddnapping, people trying to kill them both or their family and friends. There still fighting strong. I don't think anything can ever separate them.

This is one of the few books by this author that I didn’t really enjoy. I just kept putting it down. This book does wrap up Ellie and Devlin’s story and there are no unanswered questions in the end, which is great. Also the main plot of Devlin and dealing with his past, that story is great. It’s all the extra stuff going on. Some of the extra stuff which makes it a little too over the top for my tastes could have been more streamlined. I found the dialogue, especially when Brandy was involved in the conversation to be very juvenile. The were sections of text and dialogue where you knew what the plan was, but then it would keep changing as if the author forgot what she just wrote. Also the story lead you to believe there would be a conversation/interaction. For example, not a spoiler, Delvin comments on Ronan arriving at Brandy’s and needs to give him the code, but then something else happens and we never find out why Ronan showed up. When ever Ronan is there, there is a purpose, so that lack of follow thru.
