About this ebook

Three children and their hilariously subversive nanny pig embark on zany adventures in this award-winning middle grade debut illustrated by Caldecott winnter Dan Santat.

The three Green children are cared for by a nanny pig. Yes, a pig--a fabulously sassy and impeccably dressed pig, as a matter of fact! With her insatiable urge to eat chocolate (and feed chocolate to everyone she loves), her high-flying spirit, and her unending sense of fun, Nanny Piggins takes Derrick, Samantha, and Michael on a year of surprises, yummy treats, and adventures they'll never forget.

It's no surprise that Booklist proclaimed, "Mary Poppins, move over--or get shoved out of the way." Nanny Piggins is a refreshing and dynamic addition to favorite classic nannies: Amelia Bedelia, Mrs. Piggle Wiggle, and, of course, Mary Poppins.

It feels like a satire book for people who like Mary Poppins, but hate children. Without sugarcoating the themes in the first chapter alone include the following ideals: children are viewed as burdens to fathers, children should feel guilty about the death/absence of their mother, young girls should only perceive their value by being pretty "but not too pretty to cause a fuss", fat shaming children is okay if it is used to correct impulse control, and that rich people shouldn't pay taxes and that the father prioritizes helping the wealthy find loop holes over his family's needs. There is creating a toxic environment for pushing a plot forward and then there is pushing a message through exposure. if you love your children, do not read this to them or let them read it themselves.
