About this ebook

Richard J. Foster’s Celebration of Discipline: The Path to Spiritual Growth is hailed by many as the best modern book on Christian spirituality with millions of copies sold since its original publication in 1978. In Celebration of Discipline, Foster explores the "classic Disciplines," or central spiritual practices, of the Christian faith to show how each of these areas contribute to a balanced spiritual life.  Foster, the bestselling author of several books (Prayer and Streams of Living Water) and intrachurch movement founder of Renovaré, helps motivate Christians everywhere to embark on a journey of prayer and spiritual growth.

Richard Foster's book is a gold mine for Christians who want to get real about their relationship with Jesus. Foster takes biblical teachings seriously - Meditation - his first theme is not about emptying our minds it is "the ability to hear God's voice and obey his word". The other themes of prayer, fasting, and study, simplicity, solitude, submission, and service, and confession, worship, guidance, and celebration are all biblically based. Don't listen to the words of a reviewer who has looked at the titles of the chapters and decided that Richard Foster is teaching heresey - dive into this surprisingly readable book and be challenged in a way that you might never have been before! Go on - try a bit of Discipline! After all Disciple-in is what we are meant to be about.

Unfortunately, Richard Foster is using mysticism and cloaking it in Christianity. The basis for contemplative prayer is Buddhism/Hinduism. There is nothing in the Bible teaching us to use this type of prayer. We are told to use our minds, not empty our minds. This is a dangerous practice to use, it isn't Christian.

divinely inspired. A tremendous read. Takes a while to get through it, and needs to be read and re-read as in many Christian texts. This book was given to me by my Pastor and it helped me a lot as I began on the road to salvation
