Blake Reads Things
Simple but endearing, The Maid I Hired Recently is Mysterious is the story about an orphaned boy name Yuuri and, well, who else but the maid mentioned in the title? Her name is Lillith, and she works for free in exchange for room and board. She seems to harbor genuine endearment for her young employer, but her exact motive for taking the job remains a mystery. The boy, on the other hand, does not exactly trust his maid and believes her to have some nefarious motive. Of course, being young, he frequently tells her these things out loud and it's very clear that he's as charmed by her as she is by him. The story is pretty simple and features only these two characters, but both Yuuri and Lillith are pure and likable people. The art style of this manga is pretty good. I especially appreciate how the maid's eyes are colored in almost every panel she's in. It adds a little bit of life to the manga. I would hope to see a larger cast of characters and more settings in future volumes, but even if that doesn't play out, I'll still probably pick up Volume 2 when it releases. The interactions between our two protagonists and the art style make this volume an easy sell for me. I'd recommend it wholeheartedly if you're into lighthearted slice of life stuff.
