Fantastic book. I especially love the section on early marriages. It did not include my family members, but still a great addition. I say thanks to google for supplying it to the public. If I could own it I would.

So glad to find these books by J.W. Ellis on Google books! this is my fourth great grandfather! My dad had a copy of both volumes of the history of Jackson County in his library but they both have vanished. I was afraid they were never to be found again! I am so grateful to have the opportunity to download them to my ebook. I am fortunate to have in my possesion the typed transcript of his serials "Life on the Plains" . It would be great to be able to share these in an ebook form. They read as good as any western but are taken from his own life experiences while serving in the army on the wild frontier. Thanks again for making these books available. They contain a wealth of historical information about the founding families of Jackson County, Iowa. --Mary Ellis Styles
