About this ebook

Sexuality has captured the imagination of thinkers since antiquity. It has inspired numerous creative works and posed myriad ethical, legal, and social challenges. Unlike other references, which discuss the medical aspects of sexuality, this encyclopedia explores sexuality as the subject of philosophy. Through more than 150 alphabetically arranged entries on thinkers, topics, movements, religions, and concepts, the encyclopedia locates sexuality in its humanistic and social contexts.

Sexuality has captured the imagination of countless poets, artists, and theorists since antiquity. It has inspired numerous creative works and posed myriad ethical, legal, and social challenges. Because it is so central to society, various thinkers have pondered its philosophical dimensions. The first of its kind, this reference offers comprehensive coverage of the philosophy of sex.

The entries are written by more than 100 expert contributors and cite current scholarship.
