I too read this book in fifth grade and it has never left me. A sad but very courageous story of a young Japanese citizen who endured these horrific A - bombs dropped on Hiroshima her 3km from her home. If you want to feel what it would be like if this was you, this is the book. It very well could be anywhere in the world the state it's in.

One thousand paper cranes is a sad book, but it is excellently written and reminds us the power of peace in our hearts. Sadako was a brave girl and will be remembered forever.
