I was so moved by this book. It's written in the voice of a Chicago Hispanic teenager and for that reason it took me a few chapters to acclimate to the author's style. But the reward was worth it. I found the contrast between the dark violence of the gangbangers in the story and the love of the two protagonists to be both beautiful and inspiring. I already recommended it to my family. I would love to see this book made into a movie.
About the author
Father Michael Enright was born in 1958 and grew up in suburban Chicago. He has been a priest for fifteen years and has been working in the Hispanic community for nineteen years. He has published various articles about religious subjects. Daisies in the Junkyard is his first novel.
