About this ebook

#1 New York Times Bestseller: Two teens are pulled into a mysterious realm in a story with “an irresistible mix of adventure, humor, and magic” (Rick Riordan, author of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series).

Jason Walker has often wished his life could be a bit less predictable—until a routine day at the zoo ends with Jason suddenly transporting from the hippo tank to a place unlike anything he’s ever seen. In the past, the people of Lyrian welcomed visitors from the Beyond, but attitudes have changed since the wizard emperor Maldor rose to power. The brave resisters who opposed the emperor have been bought off or broken, leaving a realm where fear and suspicion prevail.

In his search for a way home, Jason meets Rachel, who was also mysteriously drawn to Lyrian from our world. With the help of a few scattered rebels, Jason and Rachel become entangled in a quest to piece together the word of power that can destroy the emperor—and learn that their best hope to find a way home will be to save this world without heroes.

“Headlong adventure scenes, inventively conceived creatures, and surprising plot twists.” —Booklist

“Humorous and imaginative scenarios. . . Mull has taken the tried-and-true quest genre and reinvigorated it with [an] extremely well-written follow-up to his bestselling Fablehaven series.” —Los Angeles Times

I liked it less than expected. But that doesn't mean it was bad its no fablehaven. It starts off great but then takes awhile to get where its going. The biggest dissapoint was my own fault didn't know it was a series & the end really leaves you hanging.

I liked this book because of the way Jason had a different way then I've read getting into this other world makes me laugh. I also like the some of the comedic points. I think that the ages are a little off I don't very many 13 year holds that can handle what they went through.

I absolutely love Mull's work! I started with the Fablehaven series and was pulled even further into Mull's worlds by this book! His writing is universal and can be enjoyed by every age! Now on to the book! Definately a rollarcoaster with this one- swallowed by a hippo that happens to be a portal to a new world, people totally fine with dying, beings who can stay alive while disassembled! One of the most unique worlds I've ever had the pleasure of visiting. Grabs and KEEPS your attention.
