THE STUBBORN BILLIONAIRE (The Muse Series) by Lexxie Couper NG Nothing was going right for Sienna Roberts. Her dad is in jail, her younger brother just got expelled from school, she has no social life, and her art career is going nowhere: there is only one person who buys all her paintings: the mysterious Mason Xavier. And what is billionaire James Dyson doing on her doorstep now? Six months before, James and Sienna had shamelessly flirted, then he told her he never wanted to see her again. James’ late brother Clinton had been a good friend of Sienna’s; did James overreact because of Clinton? After Clinton died, James blamed Sienna and vowed he would avenge his brother, and that meant destroying Sienna by any means possible. He’ll even use the insane sexual attraction he still feels for Sienna. Sienna might have thought something could develop with James, but after the way he treated her, she hates him. If only she didn’t want to jump his bones. It’s complicated. Let’s get a few things out of the way: I’m not especially crazy about billionaires, and I don’t like revenge tropes, but this is the amazing Lexxie Couper we’re talking about! And dear me, are those two people ever angry, or what! They hate each other, they want each other. The first half of the book is filled with rage, guilt, confusion, and crackling sexual tension, and Ms. Couper can convey all these emotions like no one. Lexxie Couper is a stupendously talented writer at all times, but man, James and Sienna were so angry and confused, but at least, they were both able to admit that they were behaving irrationally. Without giving away any spoilers, I couldn’t totally understand why James seemed to suddenly forget the real reason why he wanted to destroy Sienna, even before hearing her side of the story; I didn’t feel his justification was sufficient. I am not the forgive-and-forget type, and it wasn’t easy for me to accept Sienna’s change of heart. I must also say that, strangely enough, my favourite character was Zach, Sienna’s 15-year old brother. He feels so real, I was nearly looking over my shoulder to see if he was hovering about. Every line of dialogue is superlatively well written, and again Zach’s lines were the best. I think it’s too bad that the character is only 15, because I would be clamouring for his story! Lexxie Couper’s spectacularly eloquent and vivid writing style shines brighter than the sun! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

Ms. Couper pulled a fast one. I went into this story knowing that I was going to dislike James and I came out even more intrigued by him. That are various layers to both James and Sienna that are hard to endure but kept me enraptured all the same. What neither understands is there is no black and white when it comes to the heart. That gray area almost always wins. The Stubborn Billionaire is a complex story that begins with revenge and ends with love.

What started out as a plan for revenge quickly changes as James Dyson really gets to know the woman he blames for his brother's death. Sienna Roberts is nothing like the woman Clinton described to him as a gold digger and a user. In fact she seems to be the complete opposite. Now he's really intrigued by her and won't stop until he finds out exactly who the real Sienna Roberts is. This was a great read with fantastic writing and characters. I would absolutely recommend this book to everyone.
