About this ebook

The climax and conclusion of one of the best-selling biographies of our time. The New Yorker declared the first volume of Ian Kershaw's two-volume masterpiece "as close to definitive as anything we are likely to see," and that promise is fulfilled in this stunning second volume. As Nemesis opens, Adolf Hitler has achieved absolute power within Germany and triumphed in his first challenge to the European powers. Idolized by large segments of the population and firmly supported by the Nazi regime, Hitler is poised to subjugate Europe. Nine years later, his vaunted war machine destroyed, Allied forces sweeping across Germany, Hitler will end his life with a pistol shot to his head. "[M]ore probing, more judicious, more authoritative in its rich detail...more commanding in its mastery of the horrific narrative."—Milton J. Rosenberg, Chicago Tribune

Five stars for the book: Excellent book by Kershaw, meticulous in detaill, superbly documented, persuasively argued assessment of Hitler. One star for Google Play Books presentation: Illustrations are not included in the ebook, although a list of the illustrations is included in the Table of Contents. The absence of Illustrations is not explicitly stated in the Google Play Books description of the item. Zero stars for Google Play Books customer service representative (CSR) assistance in resolving my download problem with this ebook on my iPhone. (Sample of ebook would open instead of Purchased ebook). After 25 minutes of troubleshooting failure, CSR pledged to consult with a senior assistant and call back with resolution. Further, transmission quality of call was poor, featuring time lag and poor sound which exaggerated the CSR’s thick Indian accent. CSR tried hard to resolve my download issue and CSR’s tone of service was excellent but CSR demonstrated inability to understand and resolve my problem. I resolved my download problem myself by tapping the cover image of the sample, selecting “remove download”, and tapping the cover image of the sample again. This procedure made available the entire eBook to me (and revealed the absence of Illustrations mentioned above). Google CSR’s can do better work than did this CSR. I know because I’ve experienced superb customer service from Google CSRs in the past. (Praise for you, agent “Cody”). Conclusion: Excellent work by Kershaw. Too bad Google Play Books chooses to omit Illustrations without explicitly stating so in the item description. And too bad Google Play Books CSRs are not all as excellent as “Cody”.

No illustrations included in digital edition. Google omitted absence in book description. Text fraught with dozens of typographical errors and spurious page breaks.
