About the author

Mark Zuehlke has dedicated his career to writing about military history and the influence of the nation’s war experiences on Canadian society. He is the author of Ortona: Canada’s Epic World War II Battle; The Liri Valley: Canada’s World War II Breakthrough to Rome; Juno Beach: Canada’s D-Day Victory, June 6, 1944; Holding Juno: Canada’s Heroic Defence of the D-Day Beaches, June 7–12, 1944; The Canadian Military Atlas: The Nation’s Battlefields from the French and Indian Wars to Kosovo and numerous other books. He is frequently sought out for comment about military matters from Canada’s major media. He lives in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

C. Stuart Daniel owns and runs the cartography company Starshell Maps. His maps have appeared in more than a hundred books, including Ortona, The Liri Valley, and Canvas of War. He lives in Victoria, B.C.
