About this ebook

In this Regency romance by USA TODAY bestselling and HOLT Medallion winning author BREE WOLF, a wild lady and a disillusioned lord come to realize that Fate’s twists and turns can be heartbreaking…but also healing.

A wild lady. A wicked curse. And a love torn apart by tragedy.

England 1814: MISS JOHANNA GREY’s wild youth ends abruptly when her best friend—and betrothed—falls to his death upon climbing the tree outside her window. Heartbroken and unable to forgive herself, she retreats to a finishing school for young ladies.

Until London calls four years later, and Johanna finds herself swept into a world of matchmakers and schemers, pressured to find a husband. Will it be kind-hearted Lord Kenwood, a man who reminds her of the friend she lost that fateful day long ago? Or perhaps COLIN GRENVILLE, a young man from her past, whom Johanna did not even dare think of these past four years?

For years, COLIN GRENVILLE, only son and heir to VISCOUNT ATTINGTON, stayed away from England, travelling the world, until a most unexpected letter finds him in Venice, Italy. Suddenly drawn back home, Colin finally admits to himself that the girl he once loved still holds his heart. But will he reach her in time before she chooses the wrong man? Or will fate never be on their side?

This is a wonderful story. A young girl develops a fascination with a childhood playmate, not the one her parents had promised her to in infancy. Her betrothed dies in an accident in his mid-teens. The playmate, blamed by the grieving parents, takes off to wander the world, and she is sent to finishing school. She feels guilty because the two boys were trying to "free" her from her room where she was being punished. At school her mind turns interest to love. Upon graduation, she meets a man in the marriage market who seems to understand her preferences for quiet, reading, and sharing ideas and conversation. He offers, she accepts and immediately after, the old playmate returns. She rejects his offer (she's promised to the other.) He leaves again. The new fiance dies and she withdraws completely, rejecting all suitors. Because it's a romance, there is an HEA but I won't spoil the clever ending. The characters are likable, writing clear, and tempo brisk. Definitely worth reading.

About the author

USA Today bestselling and award-winning author of the LOVE'S SECOND CHANCE SERIES. Bree Wolf has always been a language enthusiast (though not a grammarian!) and is rarely found without a book in her hand or her fingers glued to a keyboard. Trying to find her way, she has taught English as a second language, traveled abroad and worked at a translation agency as well as a law firm in Ireland. She also spent loooong years obtaining a BA in English and Education and a MA in Specialized Translation while wishing she could simply be a writer. Although there is nothing simple about being a writer, her dreams have finally come true.

"A big thanks to my fairy godmother!"

Currently, Bree has found her new home in the historical romance genre, writing Regency novels and novellas. Enjoying the mix of fact and fiction, she occasionally feels like a puppet master, forcing her characters into ever-new situations that will put their strength, their beliefs, their love to the test, hoping that in the end they will triumph and get the happily-ever-after we are all looking for.
