About this ebook

Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school...again. And that's the least of his troubles. Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology textbook and into his life. Book #1 in the NYT best-selling series, with cover art from the feature film, The Lightning Thief.

The Lightning Thief is a great book which has suspense and excitement. The author, Rick Riordan does a good job of incorporating Greek mythology with real life. One of the things I really like about this book is that the Greek mythology that is in play is all accurate, Riordan does not change it at all. This book is about Perseus Jackson who is the son of one of the gods that sit at Mt. Olympus. The book’s main plot is that he must bring back an item that was stolen and he is being falsely accused of stealing it. So, to clear his name, Percy must go on a quest with some of his friends to retrieve the item and to find out who the real thief was. The book’s thesis would be that you should never give up in trying to prove who you really are and you should always do the right thing. The book’s thesis is shown when Percy is faced with a conflict between choosing to make the right decision which would have a positive impact on the people that he knew and trusted or choosing to make the wrong decision which would cause complete chaos in the world. This is contrasted when somebody in the book doesn’t make the best choices and ends up in a dilemma where he/she can’t change anything now and if he/she does then things will not end up so well for them. They can’t correct their past. The author counters this by having a more abundance of people who take Percy’s path. Riordan’s purpose for writing this was to inform people of Greek mythology while also providing a thrilling adventure. Comparing this book to other literature about Greek mythology, I find this the best because of it accurate information and the awesome story that it provides along the way. The Iliad only talks about the Trojan War while The Lightning Thief has more involvement of the gods and it is much more quickly paced. Overall, I love this because it’s a fun read and it always keeps you engaged. It’s a page turner that you can’t put down. I recommend this book to people who like Greek mythology or to people who like books with characters that have special superpower-like abilities. This book is amazing.

Percy Jackson is an amazing book with a gripping story line. Percy, Annabeth and Grover must stop the evil forces of evil Greek history coming back to destroy America. In this series, Rick Riordan brings greek mythology to life in America{ Metaphoricaly}. I think all kids from 9-14 will enjoy this series very much.

So far, I've got to say that this is the #1 best book I've ever read. It has a brief description about his family, his evil-spirited step-father, his loving biological mother, and his friends of course. It's also really funny how there are a lot of mythical creatures throughout the book. Basically, what I'm saying is that this is the best book ever. If you have nothing to read, Lightning thief is the right choice for anyone, whether they like Greek mythology or not. 5 stars!
