This is the first Jonathan Maberry book I've read, and I didn't know what to expect from his writing. However, about 50 pages in I found myself ordering the second book in this series. Desdemona Fox is ex-military turned cop in Stebbins County, Pennsylvania. J.T., Dez's partner are the first to arrive at ground zero at a funeral home, where a deadly virus claims its first victim. Starts a little slow by the time your a quarter way threw you can't put it down. Each character is fleshed out and you care for each of their outcomes. Hopefully its made into a movie.

Detailed and exhilarating! just enough backstory so it doesn't big down the pace and for a zombie saturated world with shows like the walking dead, it is refreshing and intense! currently reading the second novel and it's just as good! One of the better zombie novels out there. Worth the money!
