A small-animal payload has been designed, developed, integrated with a modified Arcas launch vehicle, and qualified ny both ground and flight testing in Phase I of the Bio-Space Technology Training Program. The vehicle is to be used in assisting biological experimenters in their evaluation of the engineering and operational aspects of space-flight research. The results of Phase I of this program are presented in this report. Included are the design criteria of the various payload systems and a description of the resulting launch configuration. The theoretical trajectory, aerodynamic analysis, environmental determination, qualification testing, and biological bench testing are discussed. Finally, the flight testing of the complete Bio-Space configuration is summarized.
