About this ebook

The man that called himself Al Clark woke up not knowing where he was. Even worse, he did not know who he was. His journey to discover his identity and where it was that he found himself, leads him to marvels he didn't know existed, and places only found in the pages of a science fiction book. During his quest, he meets man-eating monsters, aliens, and robots on a world not his own. He dreams of a good life, green valleys, idyllic villages, friends that truly care—and finds them all in his adventure of a lifetime—at least the lifetime he remembers.

I bought this book because it was cheap, $1.26 Canadian. I can honestly give it five stars for value. I do not regret buying the book. The basic premise of the book is that a space ship with a complement of 1,000 settlers and crew are leaving earth to settle a far distant planet. The ship and settlers are beset by various life threatening situations such as asteroid strikes, failure to be revived automatically from suspended animation, sabotage, and prehistoric thinking monsters. We follow their adventures, especially those of Al Clark the chief security officer. Not all asteroid strikes are bad. One revives Al Clark, however, he does wake up with amnesia. The book is a good read with the first half being more interesting than the second half. There were a couple of paragraphs I had to reread because I failed to understand them the first time around. I finished the book in two days. In many ways the book is disappointing. There are friendly stone-age natives on the planet, but the book fails to develop any culture for them. Most of the characters and their relationships are also very thin. I also found the concept of thinking prehistoric monsters to be interesting, but the author failed to pursue this. I was expecting the beasts to be tamed and used for transport, but, alas, this did not happen. There are numerous holes in the plot, which I will not explain because it may spoil the reader’s enjoyment. One odd anomaly is that the prehistoric monsters are cold blooded, yet they do most of their hunting at night. I would buy another book by the same author, if only to see if he has improved. However, the book has to be cheap.

About the author

Jonathan G. Meyer has been a Science Fiction fan since childhood. His highly rated Al Clark Trilogy is now available on most popular outlets. His newest novel, called Vincent, is a standalone story of a small hero with a critical mission. Jon's mission in writing is to create the type of books he read while growing up. Good Old-fashioned Sci-Fi.
