Le destin politique de Georges Valois se mêle à la première moitié du XXe siècle. Après avoir côtoyé les milieux anarchistes, Valois trouve à partir de 1906 son assise politique à l'Action Française. Mais la guerre devait ébranler bien des certitudes. En novembre 1925, Valois jugeant l'Action française incapable de provoquer un changement de régime, fonde le Faisceau, qui sans être une simple imitation du Fascio italien, entend poursuivre selon ses propres méthodes un objectif identique : conquérir, ou tout au moins participer au pouvoir, afin de mener une politique nationale. Ce sera un échec.
