4 stars — I was a little worried about the woo woo aspect of the story, but for me it was just a plot device, and remained a solid contemporary romance. And while this story was light in some aspects, I really appreciated how it brought about these conversations about what makes a relationship long lasting…there were some great gems in here. Susie has inherited her beloved aunt's house. After hiring a local construction company for renovations, the last person she wanted to show up does. Lars is the best friend of Susie's ex. An ex who broke her heart, an ex who's a big jerk. While tearing out a wall they run across a divorce certificate that puts them on a path to unravel the origins. I loved the evolution of their relationship. For Susie, Lars is the enemy. We get some fun banter, but Lars is just a really good guy and soon they develop a friendship that is both cute and sweet Susie is a quirky and likable. Lars stole the show, he's genuine, caring, protective, and gives the alpha growls I love. An element of magical realism leads to a bit of mystery. I was wrapped up in the mystery of the certificate which leads to some witty conversation about the "end of their relationship". This was a fun, lighthearted romance; opposites attract, grumpy sunshine, friends to lovers, and close proximity.
