Lovely little romance. Even though I knew exactly where the story was going, I enjoyed each step of the journey, The premise--poor young woman decides the most lucrative career available is to become a courtesan. And who better to teach her what she needs to know than the most notorious rake in London? After all, her stepfather just gave her to the man as payment for his gambling debt! She, of course, has no idea what she is headed for. Since he is only playing a role he MUST convince her of his dissolution. Her blythe innocence gets under his skin and soon he's caught-- but so is she, and their fumbling toward one another is the bulk of the story. Add in that his "dissolution" is a cover for his spying for the crown and the set-up is complete. Naturally every reader knows what the outcome will be, but watching them fumble toward the inevitable is great fun-- and greatly rewarding. Don't miss this one. The writing is superb, the mechanics never bore, and the result well worth it.
