Given the historical context in which John Medows Rodwell developed this translation of some of the meanings of the Quran, it is understandable that it contains significant shortcomings and theological bias. As with any language significant meaning is often lost in translation. I would strongly suggest that interested and open-minded readers, searching for the truth look to a more modern translation either by unbiased western authors or recognised mainstream Islamic Scholars. A good place to start would be these two works: The Holy Qur'an: Arabic Text with English Translation by Abdullah Yusuf Ali The Qur'an: English translation with parallel Arabic text by M.A.S. Abdel Haleem
