Synopsis

Haunted by the responsibility of caring for her troubled family, Maya Jacobs gave the only answer she could when Cameron asked her to marry him. Years later, entrenched in a soulless professional routine, she distracts herself from the lingering regret of her decision with a “work hard, play hard” lifestyle that guarantees no man will ever find his way into her heart again.

Cameron Bridge has spent the past five years married to the military, trying to escape the painful memory of losing Maya. After fighting his own war in the desert, he starts a new life in New York City, with his siblings, Olivia and Darren, by his side.

When fate brings Maya back to him in the heart of a city filled with its own hopes and shadows, can Cameron find the girl he once loved in the woman she’s become?

It's official: Meredith Wild has secured prime real estate on my list of auto-buy authors--and she does so with smart books, complex characters, wit, humor, good sex, and plots that leave you guessing until the final page. I was introduced to Wild's books fairly recently, and after reading her amazing HACKER series, I had to pick this one up, too. Although the BRIDGE series drastically differs from the other works of hers I've read, it is no less profound. To say Wild is a fantastic writer is an understatement. Words can't describe the way she weaves words into sentences that allow the reader to escape reality and dive into these worlds she envisions. I'm constantly blown away by Wild's ability to pen the dark side of humanity, while still giving us books (and characters) we can fall in love with. The first book in her BRIDGE trilogy is ON MY KNEES. I have never fallen in love with a book boyfriend as quickly as I did with Cameron "Cam" Bridge. From page one, I love him. I loved what he was, what he overcame, what he stood for, and how he fought. He was an incredible mix of the character traits we look for in a good book boyfriend: loyal, devoted, patient, strong, and so on. And the fact that he's drop dead gorgeous and a stallion in bed doesn't hurt, either. Maya is his polar opposite, yet she fascinates me all in the same. A broken woman haunted by her past, Maya strives to overcome her darkest demons, while still managing to be somewhat independent. She is a survivor through and through. I give this first installment an easy five (5) stars.

I love this book so damn hard, and this author is one of my top 5 favorites of all time. So when I had an itch to read something of hers again, I knew this book/series was perfect. On My Knees is book one in The Bridge series and it focuses on the life and love story of Maya Jacobs and Cameron Bridge. This is a second chance love story and it is an emotional yet, beautiful one. Maya and Cameron were together happily, lost in each other up until Cameron decided to ask Maya to marry him, but she could only give him one answer and the answer wasn't what he wanted to hear, and he wasn't about to try and see reason, it was all or nothing for him. In which Maya could not do, which ultimately broke them up. Maya hadn't had a good upbringing, her past had broken her and her faith in relationships and love, she lived with the motto of " Work hard, Play hard" and that was working perfectly for her.. for a while, Years down the track, Maya is sick and tired of her boring uneventful routine that she calls life. She had gotten far in her life, well with her career at least. She wasn't a happy person, she was miserable to others and herself. So when Cameron came waltzing back into her life, she was finally ready to let him in, open up about her past and her upbringing and try and make a relationship between the two of them work. It wasn't easy, there were so many things that had been left unsaid and so many things that they both regretted from their past. But as the story unfolds, the love between them blossoms once more, and they find themselves tangled up with one another, but it's exactly where they both belonged and had always belonged. It wasn't smooth sailing from there. There were twists and turns weaved into the plot that the author flawlessly delivered. There were times I wanted to slap the hell out of Maya, and other times where I just wanted to hug her and tell her everything was going to be alright. At first, I struggled to connect with Maya... The way she treated Cameron hurt me and made my own heartbreak but the same can be said about Cameron. He wanted it all and if he didn't get just that, then he wanted nothing from her. But to see their love blossom again and their lust and passion coming together. It was truly amazing. This series is one of my all-time favorites and as I said before, so is the author. She always, and I mean ALWAYS manages to throw me through a tunnel of unknown with twists and turns and a story that you just can't put down and even on my second round for this book, I found myself on the edge of my seat, rapidly reading deeper and deeper into the plot, even knowing what the ending would bring. And that? That's exactly what Meredith Wild does best. It's outstanding and beyond incredible and is everything and more that I love about second chance romances, and romances in general. Once again, I'm giving this 5 stars! Bring on book 2!
