I had a really hard time with this book and I only made it half-way thru the book before I had to say, "enough." I was looking for more of a romance and this book seemed to be more bogged down with history of the Scottish highlands and of England trying to gain control of them and the underhanded ways they went about undermining the ruling son of Edinburgh. This book was also about Morrigan trying to seek atonement for her father's murder and her step-mother's imprisonment and the attorney who I think was trying to help her, but by the midway point he hadn't done much and there did not seem to be any romantic entanglements between them on the horizon. I don't mind a little history with my romance, but not when at least half the book is history with no romance. I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley and I am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions expressed here are freely given and are strictly my own.

While I enjoyed this book, I didn't love it. I loved the first two books and thought this would be the same, instead it started very slowly and with so many characters that it took effort to actually follow what the author was writing. I think part of the problem is that the author tied up all the loose ends from the prior books, in addition to this book telling a complicated story of its own. I liked both Morrigan and Aiden and enjoyed their romance. However, it was weighted down so much by the subplots that I kept putting the book down. If you've read the prior books in the series, this is worth reading just to see how the series concludes. While I remain a fan of the author, this is not her best work.

Highland Sword is a spectacular historical romance by May McGoldrick. Ms. McGoldrick has once again produced a well-written book populated with an outstanding cast of characters. Morrigan is wanted but continues to do what she thinks is best, often putting herself in danger. Aidan is a barrister and will be defending 2 innocent men. Morrigan and Aidan share a secret. Their story is packed with drama, humor, sizzle, action and suspense. I loved this book from cover to cover and look forward to my next book by May McGoldrick. Highland Sword is book 3 of the Royal Highlander Series and reading books 1 & 2 would help you understand the back-story, it can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
