En este libro se aborda el nacimiento y el desarrollo del subgénero literario de la elegía de exilio entre la Antigüedad y el Renacimiento, prestando especial atención a las obras de Ovidio -el inventor del género-, como máximo representante del mismo en la Edad Antigua, de hildeberto de Lavardin, como destacado representante en la Edad Media, y, finalmente, de Joachim du Bellay, como cultivador egregio en el Renacimiento. No obstante, se consideran también los hitos intermedios (Antigüedad tardía, Renacimiento carolingio, final de la Edad Media) que permiten vislumbrar de manera coherente el proceso de tradición literaria. El volumen se completa con una edición comentada de los textos que se analizan, traducidos rítmicamente.
