I really enjoyed reading this book. It had some wonderful ways to help improve anyone that has shy tendencies. It’s written with a conversational tone which makes it an easy read. There are some words that make me think the writer never dealt with any shyness, but the overall message was fantastic and well written. There were moments I was questioning the author, though. Like with Self-esteem Junkie, there were moments where the author was trying to use a sort of “tough love” method of pushing the reader to do the suggestions within the book. I think it’s a terrible idea to force someone who already feels insignificant from their inability to overcome their shyness as is. Even though the author tried to make it sound friendly and helpful, it came across as “Hey, you suck because of your shyness. You should do this so you can be cool, or no one will like you!” There’s even a section in the book that says, “If you’re negative on social media, no one will like you.” That is a huge red flag for me in any book or type of writing. That’s not what a self-help book should be advertising. Besides that, though, it did have some helpful tips to boost one out of shyness. I like that the author started with the reader having to learn what it was keeping them shy in certain situations. Nothing will help you change something about yourself if you don’t know why you’re doing it. In the end, you’ll just keep going back to that trait you tried so hard to get rid of. I’m giving this book a 4 out of 5. There were some grammar mistakes that could have been fixed prior to publishing, and the “tough love” portion of the book is too off-putting to give it a 5 out of 5. Either way, it does have some great tips and can be helpful if the reader can get past the negativity generated from some of the comments within it.
