Recommended if you like D&D. On top of all the monster references, the narration, tone, and dialogue are in line with what you might expect from an exceptionally talented Dungeon Master. That is to say, it's a fantasy story but the telling is what I'd call 'casual' at times, modern. I never quite got over it. Still, considering that there's a lot of slapstick and silly jokes sprinkled throughout the story (and the overarching rock band motif that I eventually figured out) I think this was probably the right decision. What really matters is that the story itself is a proper adventure, and there it definitely doesn't disappoint. A lot of the action's just plain cool, and on top of that there are some genuinely shocking and touching moments to be had. So I'm grateful I had the chance to read it. Also, Matrick is my favorite. A fat king who rolls around rapidly stabbing people—yes he's as awesome as he sounds.

Kings of the Wyld is a lot of fun, well excellent characters and a reasonable plot that moves at s break neck pace. It dudes have it's flaws, the book has hard time sitting in it's darker moments, punishment enflicted on the band of protagonists never lasts more then a chapter or so. The author also has a habit of skipping big moments that I would have preferred to have read. Big villains die anti climatically. But the book is fun, emotionally provoking and a blast to read.
