I'm a fan of Star Wars movies, especially the movies released first as the characters were snarky, fun, and bantered with great chemistry. When I saw a book from the point of view of Lando Calrissian, a character that only played a smaller part in the movies, I knew I had to check it out. Plus, Justina Ireland!!! And I wasn't disappointed. This book has fun characters from different worlds, an intelligent droid, and all the banter I loved from the original movies. The action really picks up in the second half of the book and the reading pace sped up for me. The space adventures will have all science fiction middle grade fans cheering on the unlikely crew of the Millennium Falcon until the end. Make sure to read the prologue and epilogue for added richness and depth to this story, as well as hints of sequels to come. Yes, please!

>>Can be read as a standalone. I have read 0 other Star Wars books. (But I plan on more by black/POC women) >>Requires no previous Star Wars knowledge. I have watched 0 of the original trilogy on purpose, parts of the prequels, and sadly, none of the new ones. (The latter at least I plan on changing Soon(tm)) >>Clever. >>Funny. >>I love Justina Ireland!!! >>Love the cover and few illustrations. >>Contains Cheeky Droid Navigator, Do Right Adventuress Princess and her badass Assassin Queen mom, spaceship fighting, color-changing alien cat species with three tails and a quest to save the world, pay off debts, and stave off the Empire for another day. >>And obvious Lando in all his GLORY. I will admit it still makes me do a double-take seeing Donald Glover as Lando. He's perfect, don't get me wrong, but I still have this moment of "I KNOW YOU! You belong somewhere else too!!". >>I think even people who don't like or care about Lando will enjoy this. I think *this* story is more of what people were looking for in the Solo movie. Notes from Reading: >>"Forsythia stilled, and suddenly Lando was less certain that the gian cave monster wasn't a better option." - pg.29 >>"Lando only knew that the one time he'd joked about such a thing, she'd flown into a snit and refused to help him pilot the Falcon for nearly a week, stranding him on Tatooine, a miserable dustbin that he never wanted to return to again." -pg.109 >>"Zel sniffed. "You keep giving me guns but no one to shoot," she said, ears drooping a little as she made her way to the gun bays." -pg. 133 >>"Okay, we all like each other and we are all smart and beautiful. Still, I have five ships closing in fast." - pg.135
