This is a good book but I feel as though it's pushed to get to the end quickly. From the beginning it's a not stop action fest. Aaron learns about another world and some interesting abilities with hardly any difficulty or reasoning. I think the author could have slowed the pace down and given more back story to help flesh out the world and lore. I'm not saying it's a bad book but just felt a little empty on material and mainly focuses on action with not much motivation or character building.

Got the book cuz I thought it was related the chronicles of shannara, mostly cuz I couldn't remember the name of the show. Was a little disappointed that it wasn't at first, but as I continued reading the author pulled me in. Wonderful character & plot development. The story is unique unto itself. One of my top 10 books this year.

It was certainly worth a read whenever somewhere I could not easily pull out a paperback novel. I found myself finishing it while at work or on the bus late at night. Overall it was enjoyable, steady, albeit slow in a lot of instances. The beginning was hard to get passed, but once I did I found myself enjoying the supporting cast of characters. If you're looking for a simple read, with very archetypal characters I'm sure you'll be happy here, as I was in general.
