Anne McCaffrey wrote a series of books about the planet Pern and the challenges the settlers faced.Due to a "visiter"planet which swings by every 250 years and drops thread(a all destroying growth) for 50 years. While many of the books in this series can be easily enjoyed by young readers others like this one require a more mature mind or at least more effort to follow the multiple characters/locations/subplots. Some of the implied sex maybe too much for PG ratings.

The story is still very absorbing , even through it deals with the same problem of someone not accepting fact that the interval is about over.

Loved it. Been away from these books for awhile & now glad I'm back.

About the author

Anne McCaffrey, one of the world’s most popular authors, is best known for her Dragonriders of Pern® series. She was the first woman to win the two top prizes for science fiction writing, the Hugo and Nebula awards. She was also given the American Library Association’s Margaret A. Edwards Award for Lifetime Literary Achievement in Young Adult Fiction, was inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame, and was named a Science Fiction Writers of America Nebula Grand Master. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1926, McCaffrey relocated to Ireland in the 1970s, where she lived in a house of her own design, named Dragonhold-Underhill. She died in 2011.
