I read this book because it was one of those books I had never read in my life and felt it was a good idea to become familiar with it. Reading it as an adult, I must admit it did not really capture my attention but I did finish it. This may be the only instance where the numerous adaptations outshine the source text. The book is nearly unreadable, unless you are not burdened by human empathy, in which case you will revel in the countless depictions of random violence against animals and thinly veiled drug-induced nonsense disguised as abstract surrealism. Oh, and the author's smug tone, dripping with self-congratulatory wordplay and sociopathic misunderstanding of human nature. A shockingly forgettable tale. Welcome to WonderBland.
