Imagine that two people look into a world and tell us what they see. One is H.P. Lovecraft; he sees much, but his interpretation is darkened by his own fears, anxieties, and prejudices. Now we have another viewer. What she tells us doubtless has its own coloration, but it's a remarkable vision. Highly recommended.

Lovecraft's themes deserve better authors than him. This is one example of how you turn something deplorable into something worthwhile.

Ruthanna Emrys lives in a mysterious manor house in the outskirts of Washington DC with her wife and their large, strange family. She makes home-made vanilla, obsesses about game design, gives unsolicited advice, occasionally attempts to save the world, and blogs sporadically about these things at her Livejournal. Her stories have appeared in a number of venues, including Strange Horizons and Analog.
