A very insightful book by one of the few non-conservative scholars of the late 1800's in the same league as Hort. Salmon makes many careful observations about potential weaknesses in the methodology used, and conclusions drawn, by Westcott & Hort. This book includes a brief *defense* of Mark 16:9-20. Readers who are aware of insufficiencies in Hort's approach may find themselves, as they read Salmon, saying aloud, "Exactly!"
